Mexican – Canadian Contemporary Artist | Born in Mexico City in 1970 | Lives and works in Toronto and Mexico City\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Over the last 25 years, Artigas has experimented with different media and visual art modalities such as Sound Art, Site Specific Installations, Performance Art, Relational works, educational platforms, light pieces and painting. Some of the most recognizable works by Artigas relate\u2028 ludic structures to disaster situations<\/a>.\u00a0<\/span>His work dialogues with a with a wide variety of issues, from the political to the social identities and became part of the booming group of contemporary Mexican artists that emerged in the 90\u00b4s and made an important impact in the international art scene. <\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Artigas\u2019 vision took his work to the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Venice Biennale<\/span><\/a>, the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Liverpool Biennial\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/a>the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Havana Biennial<\/span><\/a> and other important international art forums. Some of the Canadian Art Institutions he had collaborate with are YYZ Artists Outlet<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Mercer Union<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>A Space,<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Le Mois de la Photo a Montreal<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Dazibao<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Sur Gallery<\/span><\/a>,<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Galerie B-312<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0Institute for Creative Exchange<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(ICE Americas)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/span>and the\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Banff Centre for the Arts<\/span><\/a>. He has participated in the inSITE Project 2000<\/a>, the Ekaterinburg Biennial<\/a>, the Argentina Biennial<\/a>, the Prague Biennial <\/a>and the Biennial of the Americas<\/a>. He has been a member of the Mexican Creators National System (Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte, FONCA-Secretar\u00eda de Cultura) the most important Art Recognition Grant in Mexico from 2007-2010, 2014-2017 and 2019-2022.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of his practice he conducts specialized creativity workshops in countries like\u00a0Canada<\/a>, Argentina<\/a>, Panama<\/a>, Franc<\/a>e, Spain<\/a>, Finland\u00a0<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Mexico<\/a>. From 2010 to 2018 he was\u00a0Professor for Contemporary Art<\/a>\u00a0at Escuela Nacional de Pintura Escultura y Grabado La Esmeralda<\/em> in Mexico City.<\/p>\n

Because of his artistic background he was granted a Significant Benefit to Canada Residence\u00a0through the International Mobility Program (IMP). In 2018 as part of this new status, 2018 he founded Art Links Inc. Contemporary Art. <\/em>making collaborations with MOCA Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto<\/a>, TheSite Magazine<\/a> and YYZ Artist Outlet.<\/p>\n

Art Links Inc. evolved into the AFTER HOURS MUSEUM<\/em>: a Social and Artistic Laboratory currently designing mediations and outreach programs with Artigas’s personal Contemporary Art Collection.<\/p>\n
